Jay Lynch Architects is a firm specializing in sustainable and economical building. We handle projects covering a wide spectrum of building techniques, from traditional platform framing to Straw-bale construction, Adobe, log wall, ICF forms, and more. Our designs aspire to attain practicality, comfort, and aesthetic beauty. We work with clients both in the office and on the building site to assure the project is realized. We do both Architectural and Structural drawings and analysis in our office, and also employ a Draftsman who specializes in interior and exterior 3D-design.
Jay Lynch
Principle Architect
Jay Lynch holds a Masters of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania and an BA of Architectural Sciences from Harvard University. Jay has over 40 years of experience designing houses, commercial structures, and public buildings. He was in the Peace Corps in Honduras from 1963-1966, he taught at the MSU school of Architecture, and he initiated his private practice in 1970.
Since 1976 he has worked on countless local projects in the Durango, Bayfield, and La Plata county areas. He maintains relationships with many of the area's best builders and sub-contractors and has a thorough knowledge of local building techniques. He does the engineering for all of our projects, and his stamp is sufficient for the building department in all but the most complicated of structures. We also have relationships with local Engineers to assist on those projects that require extra attention, thus simplifying and economizing designing and construction for our clients.
Carol Elston
Auto-CAD Drafter and Office Manager
Carol Elston is the Office Manager and AutoCAD drafter at Jay Lynch Architects. Her design experience is integral to creating comfortable and practical spaces. She has worked for several architects in the southwest area. She and Jay designed her own house, a straw-bale located in the Bayfield area, of which she was also the project manager. She is integral to our projects and to our business.
Jed Sanford
Drafter/ 3D Designer
Jed Sanford is a project manager, 3-D designer and draftsman. He works on a BIM (Building Information Management) program that quickly renders accurate 3-D models of the plan as well as producing clear construction documents. The model he creates in his program updates in real time, which allows us to provide detailed images of our clients ideas very quickly. The program excels at rendering as well, as can be seen from the rendered images in our gallery. Seeing is believing, and we invite you to come take a look.
